Movement for Life™ - a training program for healthcare professionals: learn specially developed
movement training for woman with breast cancer or other forms of cancer

developed by Dr. Martha Eddy from New York City

Moving for Life training is designed to deal with the fatigue, weakness, weight gain, depression, lymphedema
and the diminished movement range around the shoulder girdle and center of weight in the pelvis. It is a training
to encourage woman to actively participate in their healing process in a group setting. It is empowering – teaching
self help. The movement training encourages each participant to find trust and respect in the body and in herself
as a whole person.

Design of classes focus on:

·        Breath-based warm up and easy swinging activity to increase the range of movement.

·        Lymphatic drainage is encouraged by special gentle squeezing actions of the arms and legs.

·        A coordinated, rhythmic pulse that awakens and enlivens the body/ the whole person.

·        Each session ends with a relaxing and fluid stretch sequence and careful deep stretches

for the back, legs, neck and arms.

·        Opportunities to exchange personal experience and resources.

·        Explore realistic tools to deal with stress.

It is a holistic training that takes the whole person into account. We focus on healthy exertion and recuperation
throughout the training and work to keep the energy in each class moderate yet alive. It is supportive to train in
a community with other woman; chairing the joy of reclaiming health is uplifting and repairs self-respect and deepens
trust of the body-mind-spirit.

As an Instructor for “Moving for Life™ you will learn:

·        Components of treatment for cancer and their effects on the body

·        How exercise supports recovery

·        What movements are safe and effective

·        How to teach well – motivating and guiding all types of movers

You learn to see and think in a developmentally progressive manner to develop movement sequences. Use organic
natural movement principles to establish a joyful atmosphere and solve physical as well as emotional problems through
movement.

The Moving Cycle, a training in Body Psychotherapy and Counseling

With Christine Caldwell PhD (USA) and Ute Lang, Assistant

The Moving Cycle developed from natural observations of the processes we engage in as we heal.

Healing can be thought of as a return to wholeness – a recovering of the harmonious movement of

all parts of our selves. Healing occurs in four sequential phases, and it`s our moving through this

phases that the therapist or a counselor facilitates, whatever his or her training or orientation. The

first phase is Awareness, and in it we wake up to what is happening. This can be an awakening to

pain, or to the absence of pleasure. The second phase is called Owning, and involves befriending,

taking care of, and taking responsibility for whatever arises as we keep paying attention. This process

has the effect of recovering disowned parts of the self. Appreciation forms the third phase, and involves

a return of feelings of completion and satisfaction, enabling us to enlarge our lives. The last phase is

Action, an applying of our healing into the workings of our daily lives. Engaging in these four phases

consciously accelerates and magnifies natural healing processes. Interestingly, the processes of

creativity also follows these four phases, and can be consciously coached by the Moving Cycle (MC)

practitioner. An MC practitioner works with our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual movement

processes as we progress through these four phases.

Seminar 1: Introduction to the Moving Cycle
with Ute Lang

Participants experience and luxuriate in the work for themselves. This work alternates between whole

group movement times, and one person working with a facilitator, while the rest of the group witnesses

and supports. These sessions work therapeutically and creatively to recover flexibility and choice in ones

physical structure, emotional life, thinking, and sense of connection to others. Discussion time integrates

the members experience with the theories of the work. This seminar promotes personal healing and

familiarity with the Moving Cycle form.

Participants will learn:

·         Principles of Movement that apply to healing and well being

·         Movement strategies that promote empowerment, satisfaction, and grace

·         Body states that promotes, responsibility, appreciation of self and others, and effective action

·         Experiential understanding of how the body changes its mind

                Date          February 16th – 19th 2012

                                   Sunday 12 am – Wednesday 4pm

Place          Polaris Centret, Kirke Hyllinge , Danmark

               Full boarding   170 EURO

Accommodation 3 nights 80 EURO, extra night 27 EURO

Seminar 2 and 3 begin when the participant has completed seminar 1 and has the
recommendation of their Facilitator.

Seminar 2: Rhythm of Self and Other – Relational, Character and Energy work
with Christine Caldwell

This seminar offers deeper theoretical studies of movement, delivered in a discussion and demonstration
format, as well as honing practical skills for applying the Moving Cycle to ones profession.
Trainees learn how to facilitate the four phases of the Moving Cycle, and engage in supervised practice sessions.
This seminar promotes personal effectiveness in assisting others in conscious movement.

Participants will learn:

·         Learning relationship dynamics in movement and non-verbal communication

·         Understanding how character and energy move through the body and affect relationships

·         Observing and engaging with movement obstacles in oneself and others

·         Practicing effective movement sequencing as a means of enhancing relationships

·         Using movement to regulate ones vitality consciously

                  Date                        5th – 10th of July 2012
We begin Thursday 4 PM and end Tuesday 4 PM

Place                      Polaris Centret, Kirke Hyllinge, Danmark
                   Seminar fee          525 EURO/ 3940 DKK
                   Full boarding         235 EURO/ 1750 DKK
                   Accommodation  136 EURO/ 1000 DKK for 5 nights in a double room

Prerequisite is an Introduction to the Moving Cycle and a recommendation
of the facilitator of that course.

Seminar 3: Working with habitual obstacles, Micro Movements and Dissociation

This seminar focuses on what occurs when we consistently obstruct movement, whether it be physical,
emotional, mental or spiritual. It also trains methods of restoring movement capacity. Chronically held
back movement creates a sense of lack. That can become intolerable, leaving us vulnerable to addiction.
This phase defines addiction broadly and looks to the body to help us restore a sense of fullness,
mindfulness – that is our birthright.

Participants will learn:

·         An experiential and theoretical understanding of the continuum from habits to creativity

·         A somatically-centered theory of addiction and addiction recovery

·         Identifying obstructed movements, which are often signaled by subtle and small movements “tag”

·         Understanding our relationship to natural and un-natural pleasure, and how to commit to natural pleasure

·         How to restore completed movement sequences.

This course will be taught in summer 2013

Developmental Movement and Object Relations Theory, seen and experienced from
the perspective of Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies

With Ute Lang Certified Movement Analyst, Dance/Movement Therapist BTD,  ECP

Movement therapists as well as educators need an embodied understanding of the ideal psychophysical
development and a movement oriented system to observe and describe movement experiences. A movement therapist
uses her movement observations for diagnosis, treatment planning and she has a wide range of embodied movement
principles which relate to developmental theories for process oriented interventions to support the clients natural
unfoldment of an embodied Self in relationship.

Content of these training courses are:

-       Exploration of developmental movement patterns and the integration of the evoked feelings

-       Aspects of Body, Effort Shape and Space that are relevant in the developmental process

-       Learning to see connectedness and disconnectedness in relationship to developmental issues

-       Dyadic interactions – revealing patterns of relationship

-       Observation training – description without interpretation

-       The therapist’s role in a developmentally oriented relationship with the client

Joy and interest are the energies that unfold the movement potential of the natural development of an embodied Self
 in relationship.

1st and 2nd course

-       An overview of the 6 basic total body organisation patters

-       Movement explorations of the basic patters of total body organisation of the 1st year of life
in relation to developmental psychology

-       Basic principles of Bartenieff Fundamentals: core support, connectedness, breath support, etc.

-       Partner exercises and interactions that reveal relationship themes of building trust within the dyadic relationship

-       Basic principles of movement Analysis that support themes of the relationship in the 1st year of life:
shape flow and shaping qualities

-       Transitions between surrender and assertion; exertion and recuperation

-       The mirroring relationship

3rd and 4th course

-       Movement explorations of the basic patterns of total body organisation of the 2nd year of life

-       In relation to developmental psychology

-       Basic principles of Bartenieff Fundamentals: active centre of weight, groundedness, intent, vertical thoroughness

-       Movement exploration of themes of autonomy and adjustment/conformity; aggression and Self-assertion,
 conflict strategies

-       The supporting relationship in the practising phase

These courses include both, experimental and theoretical aspects in working with movement. We will focus on the
embodiment of developmental movement sequences and the understanding of the holding function of the dyadic
relationship throughout the different stages in development.

A willingness to move own material is necessary to embody working principles.

We will work with Authentic movement to explore and integrate feelings that have been evoked through this work.

These courses will be offered in four parts.
